Your Art Has a Voice

Your Art has a Voice and will tell you your next creative step. But how can you do that?

When do you trust the Voice within? Are there ways to create a path to the true inner intuitive self? Here are some things to think about to engage your intuition for every work of art you do. Intuition is like art that must be worked to improve. Click here to join us in the comments.

First of all, I recently heard something like ‘Be open to what your art wants’. I don’t exactly hear my art respond with, ‘What I have to say to you is __________.’ But you can do that, ask the question, put it out there, then walk away for awhile. Often as I do mundane things throughout the day, answers come to me about many things. As the mind is occupied with routine tasks, this allows the creative voice to come through. Have a notebook/sketchbook handy to catch any inspiration that comes your way.

Secondly, I find with my own work, that walking away clears my energy. When I return, if there’s more to be added to the art, it stands out! I can’t stop myself from adding, playing, blending. The hand seems to touch the mystery far clearer than any thinking will do. This may go on for a few walk aways and returns. It’s a fascinating process. I’d say don’t be in a hurry to get onto the next painting without giving each one their space to grow and expand. Be mindful of open time to let spirit give you an answer. You may be attracted to certain colors, shapes, or images throughout the day that could take your art to another level.

Thirdly, see your art with Fresh Eyes. Taking a photo of it, seeing it on your iphone, often will tell you exactly what needs fixing. Allow your art to show you what it needs. This process requires some space and time. Journal about the work. Let stream of consciousness flow about the piece, the colors used, what you like about it, what you aren’t sure about. Ask if it is done and see what the hand has to say. Touch your heart and ask if this is inspiration talking. We have to go beyond ego, beyond what other artists do, and find a deeper place where our own Truth lives.

So let’s all work on the habit of taking a step back, and listening for our Creative Voice. It may have plenty to say! How do you touch you inspiration? Click here to enter the conversation.

Have a great creative day!
